Our offices are in Rainford, near St Helens, and in Southport. Whilst we don’t have a base on the Wirral itself, we can easily visit you at home if you’d find that easier for conversations about pensions and family finances. We’ll also happily come to your business premises, or we can arrange to speak by phone or video call. You’re also welcome to meet us at the Rainford office.
Rigby Financial has been run by the same family since it was founded in 1980. Our advisers include directors Simon Rigby and Jeremy Calderbank, and you’ll deal with the same people each time you review your plans.
Why retirement planning and estate planning matter on the Wirral
The Wirral has an older population than England as a whole. At the 2021 Census, 22% of Wirral residents were aged 65 or over, compared with 18.4% across England. For many households, that puts retirement income and passing on wealth near the top of the financial planning agenda.
Turning your pension into an income
When you retire, you’ll usually have several choices about how to use your pension savings. You may be able to take part of your pension tax-free or buy an annuity that pays a guaranteed income for life. You could also keep your money invested and draw an income as you need it.
Each option has different consequences for your tax, your flexibility and what’s left for your family. We’ll look at all your pensions together, work out how long your money could last and recommend an approach that fits the retirement you want.
The value of investments and pensions can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you invested.
Inheritance tax and your estate
If you own property that has risen in value over the years, your estate could face a larger inheritance tax bill than you expect. From 6 April 2027, most unused pension funds will also count towards your estate for inheritance tax, so plans built around passing on a pension untouched may need revisiting.
Our inheritance tax planning advice looks at your whole estate and the options open to you, such as gifting during your lifetime and placing assets in trust.
Investing in retirement
Retirement can last 25 years or more, so the money you’ve saved may need to keep growing for a long time. We’ll recommend investments and savings that match the income you need and the level of risk you’re comfortable with, then review them with you regularly.
Financial advice at every stage
Retirement and estate planning are only part of what we do, and for younger families and working people we also advise on mortgages, including buy-to-let mortgages for landlords.
We also advise on protection like critical illness cover and income protection.
If you own a business, we can help with key person insurance, shareholder protection and relevant life insurance. For employers, we set up and review workplace pensions and group protection schemes, too.
Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
