The claim
In September 2025, our client faced a major setback when a consignment of perfumes and cosmetics – worth a substantial amount – was stolen during transit.
The goods were shipped from Italy, destined for a warehouse in London, UK – but they never arrived!
During transit, the logistics company subcontracted delivery to another operator, who unknowingly assigned the job to a bogus haulier. As a result, the entire shipment vanished before reaching its destination.
The challenge
When our client reported the loss, the insurer initially rejected the claim.
They argued that the shipment qualified as an ‘intercompany movement’ because it was between two subsidiary companies – and therefore not covered under the policy.
However, our client remained adamant this was a standard commercial sale, supported by invoices and a clear transfer of ownership, not an internal transfer.
The result
Our experienced account executive, Mike, immediately jumped into action. Challenging the insurers decision, requesting clarification, and providing evidence that the transaction was a genuine sale, not an internal movement.
By co-ordinating closely between the client and the insurer, Mike ensured the case received full and fair consideration.
After reviewing our representations and the evidence provided, the insurer reconsidered their position and agreed to handle the loss under the imports/exports section of the policy.
On 28 October 2025 – less than 6 weeks after the claim was initially reported – the insurer issued settlement proposals exceeding £100,000. Our very happy client accepted the settlement the next day.
This case demonstrates the importance of clear policy interpretation, ongoing support and dedicated representation on behalf of clients.
By challenging an incorrect claim refusal and presenting detailed evidence, we ensured our client received the full benefit of their insurance cover.
